Therapy Assistant / Activities Coordinator

Overview

This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the role of the Therapy Assistant/ Activities Coordinator and the skills and knowledge required to assist the therapist.

Recommended for

Persons interested in assisting the aged and disabled with their therapeutic needs.

Pre-requisites

Certificate III in Aged Care or Certificate III in Community Services (Aged Care Work).

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the possibilities and limitations of the Therapy Assistants/ Activities Coordinators role.
  • Contribute information to the care planning process.
  • Work according to the care plan.
  • Document work activities and observations.
  • Use effective communication techniques to establish rapport with aged and disabled people.
  • Aid aged and disabled people to adapt to the effects of illness, injury and disability.
  • Assist with the use of aids and equipment.
  • Organise, resource and deliver a broad range of group activities.
  • Assist with speaking and feeding difficulties.

The learning outcomes achieved provide participants with Units of Competency for;

CHCRH2A Leisure and Health Programming
CHCGROUP3C Plan and Conduct Group Activities

in partial completion towards a Certificate IV in Aged Care Work.

Assessment

Class participation and written assignments are essential requirements for successful completion of this course.
