Overview
This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the role of the Therapy Assistant / Activities Coordinator and the skills and knowledge required to assist the therapist.
Class participation and written assignments are essential requirements for successful completion of this course.
Prerequisites
Certificate III in Aged Care or Certificate III in Home and Community Care.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the possibilities and limitations of the Therapy Assistant's / Activities Coordinator's role
- Contribute information to the care planning process
- Work according to the care plan
- Document work activities and observations
- Use effective communication techniques to establish rapport with aged and disabled people
- Aid aged and disabled people to adapt to the effects of illness, injury and disability
- Assist with the use of aids and equipment
- Organise, resource and deliver a broad range of group activities
- Assist with speaking and feeding difficulties
The learning outcomes achieved provide participants with units of competency for:
- CHCRH402B: Undertake leisure and health programming
- CHCGROUP403D: Plan and conduct group activities
in partial completion towards a Certificate IV in Aged Care / Home and Community Care.
