Overview
This course provides individuals with the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification
in direct client care under the supervision of a health care professional.
The flexibility of the course allows participants to select Units of Competency for a specifi c
work role or the multi-skilling requirements necessary for smaller and rural/remote work settings.

The training course is suitable for those working in a health care setting with the desire to be
involved in direct client care. Relevant health support roles include:
- Patient Care assistants
- Orderly
- Nursing assistant
- Operating theatre technicians
- Theatre support
- Nursing support worker
- Mortuary assistant
- Wards-person
Course Content
All course material will be provided by way of Learning Guides which are part of the on-the-job
learning process including:
- Infection control
- Medical terminology
- Recognising healthy body systems
- Occupational health and safety processes.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Undertake tasks of direct care under the supervision of a health care professional
- Work within current legislation, policy, procedures and organisational protocol
- Work with clients and colleagues in a health envirinment.
Assessment
Written assignments, third party reports and a workplace assessment are essential requirements for
successful completion of this qualification.
