Preparation for Employment in Aged Care, Home Care and Disability
Overview
This course has been designed to introduce participants to the aged care, home care and disability environment and in the different techniques in client care and handling. It is recommended for people interested in working in residential care or home and community care.
Assessment comprises successful completion of a 40 hour industry placement and written assignments. Participants may select the 40 hour industry placement in either aged care, home care or disability.
Following the course eligible applicants may have the opportunity to complete a traineeship in Certificate III in Aged Care, Certificate III Home and Community Care or Certificate III in Disability.
The course is available in Perth, Bunbury and Mandurah.
Course Content
- Role and responsibilities of a care worker
- Working in a care environment
- Provision of personal care in a residential and home environment
- Services available in the care industry
- Showering, shaving
- Bed making, incontinence
- Occupational safety and health
- Legislative responsibilities
- Safe manual handling practices
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Assist clients with personal care
- Recognise and address hazards in the workplace
- Use appropriate aids to support comfort, safety and well being
- Work in an aged care, home care or disability environment
The learning outcomes achieved provide participants with the following nationally recognised competency:
- HLTHSE204B: Follow safe manual handling practice
