Certificate IV in Aged Care (CHC40108)
Overview
This course has been designed to give participants the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to provide services to individuals with complex needs and/or work with older people in a nursing home, hostel or home care environment. Workers may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.
The course is recommended for people working in aged care or assisting the aged in their daily care.
Assessment comprises written assignments and classroom based assessments. On successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate IV in Aged Care.
Prerequisites
To gain entry to CHC40108, a candidate must be recognised as competent, through a recognised training program or Skills Recognition Process, against the listed compulsory units from Certificate III in Aged Care (CHC30208) or equivalent:
- CHCPA301B: Deliver care services using a palliative approach
- CHCAC319A: Provide support to people living with dementia
- HLTAP301A: Recognise health body systems in a health care context
- CHCICS303A: Support individual health and emotional well being
- CHCCS411A: Work effectively in the community sector
- CHCAC318A: Work effectively with older people
Course Content
Includes 15 units of competency covering:
- Services to older persons with complex needs / Support for personal care needs
- Quality service delivery
- Supervise work
- Utilise specialist communication skills to build strong relationships
- Coordinate organisation's information systems
- Working within a legal and ethical environment
- Work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people
- Loss and grief
- Dementia

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
