Overview
This course has been designed to give participants the knowledge, understanding and practical skills
needed to work as an aged care worker in a nursing home, hostel or home care environment.
Recommended for
Persons working in or interested in working in the aged care sector.
Pre-Requisites
Prior to commencing work experience a police clearance will need to be sighted.
Course Content
Includes 13 units of competency covering:
- The process of ageing
- An older persons physical, emotional and behavioural needs
- Working in the aged care sector, teamwork, information and reporting tasks
- Specialised units on dementia, disabilities, medications and first aid
- Occupational Health & Safety, Manual Handling.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Provide support and assistance to older people to meet their physical, emotional and behavioural
needs
- Communicate effectively with older people and team members
- Work in a safe and effective manner in the aged care sector
- Provide information and report to team members in a verbal and written form
Assessment
Four weeks work experience and written assessments are essential requirements for successful completion
of this course.
Qualification/ Employment
On successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate III in Aged
Care Work.
Certificate III in Aged Care Work is the desired qualification sought by many care organisations
when employing staff.
