Certificate III in Business (Medical Administration)

Overview

This Business Traineeship is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need when working in administrative roles within a medical environment. It is a form of nationally recognised training that is widely accepted by industry as an effective way to develop qualified administrative employees.

The Certificate III in Business (Medical Administration) consists of the following competencies:

Core Units

BSBMED301A – Use advanced medical terminology

This unit covers understanding and responding to instructions, carrying out routine tasks and communicating with a range of internal/external clients in a Medical Office, using appropriate advanced medical terminology.

BSBMED302A – Prepare and process medical accounts

This unit covers providing advice to patients regarding fee structures, processing referrals, and preparing and processing medical accounts for a range of patients.


BSBMED303A – Maintain patient records

This unit specifies the outcomes required to maintain patient records within an existing medical records management system, under supervision.

BSBMED304A – Assist in controlling stocks and supplies

This unit specifies the outcomes required to provide assistance in stock control processes within a medical environment. This involves assisting in maintaining stock levels, storing stock, stocktaking and disposing of out-of-date stock.

BSBMED305A – Apply principles of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment

This unit specifies the outcomes required to apply principles and requirements relating to confidentiality, privacy and security to own work within the medical environment.

Requiring 12 units to achieve the qualification

  • 5 units from the Medical Administration field listed above
  • 3 units from the Common Business field at AQFIII, including the unit BSBCMN311A Maintain workplace safety (See the information sheet for Certificate III in Business to see Common field unit descriptors)
  • 4 units from the Business Services Training Package or any other endorsed Training Package, of which a minimum of 2 units must be from a qualification at AQF level III; a maximum 2 units may be included from a lower or higher level in this qualification
