Certificate III in Home and Community Care (CHC30202)

Nationally Recognised Training

This Traineeship is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to undertake a range of routine tasks to support the provision of patient or client care. It is a form of Nationally Recognised Training that is widely accepted by industry as an effective way to develop qualified employees.

The Certificate III in Home and Community Care consists of the following competencies:

Core Units

CHCAC15A – Provide care support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia

This unit covers the provision of support to clients with dementia in a variety of settings including family houses, community day settings and residential care.

CHCAC3C – Orientation to aged care work

This unit describes the roles and responsibilities by the worker in their role as a carer to perform work that reflects an understanding of the structure and profile of the residential aged care sector and key issues facing older people in the community.

CHCCOM2B – Communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues

This unit covers exercising effective communication skills in the workplace.

CHCCS405A – Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers

This unit deals with the cultural awareness required for effective communication and cooperation with persons of diverse cultures.

CHCHC301B – Work effectively in a home and community care environment

This unit covers the introductory skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a home care environment and community settings with clients, family members, staff, visitors, suppliers and others to meet established work requirements.

CHCHC302B – Provide personal care in a home and community care environment

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by workers to support or assist the older person with their personal care needs within their service delivery plan in a home and community care environment.

CHCINF8B – Comply with information requirements of the aged care and community care sectors

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by the worker to undertake administrative duties of the role including documenting in client records and contribute to the development and monitoring of service delivery plans in accordance with organisational and duty of care requirements.

CHCOHS302A – Participate in safety procedures for direct care work

On completion of this unit, the worker will be able to accurately identify the major occupational health and safety hazards, manual handling, together with other hazards that may include dealing with aggressive behaviours, stress, etc. The worker will also be able to assess related risk as well as follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision and support. The worker will also be capable of participating and contributing to OHS management issues.

CHCCS401A – Facilitate co-operative behaviour

This unit is concerned with the competencies required to respond to unacceptable behaviour and support responsibility for behaviour management and change.

CHCDIS1C – Orientation to disability work

This unit is intended to provide an introduction to working with people with a disability.

Elective Units

HLTFA1A – Apply basic first aid

This unit of competency deals with the provision of essential First Aid in recognising and responding to an emergency using basic life support measures. The First Aider is not expected to deal with complex casualties or incidents, but to provide an initial response where First Aid is required.

HLTCSD7A – Care for home environment of clients

This unit relates to efficient and effective maintenance of a client's domestic living environment. The purpose of the home care and domestic assistance to be provided is to assist a client to remain in their normal domestic environment, rather than in institutional care.

CHCAC6C – Support the older person meet their emotional and psychological needs

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by the worker to support the older person to meet their emotional and psychosocial needs.

CHCDIS3C – Provide services to people with disabilities

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by the worker to support and/or assist the person with the disability with their personal care needs within their service delivery/individual development plan.

CHCAC17A – Support the older person to maintain their independence

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by the worker to support the older person to maintain their independence with instrumental activities of living.

 

Requiring 15 units to achieve the qualification

  • Ten (10) units from the Core field listed above
  • Five (5) units from the elective field listed above
