Certificate II in Health Support Services (Client/Patient Support Services) HLT20702

Nationally Recognised Training

This Traineeship is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to undertake a range of routine tasks to support the provision of patient or client care. It is a form of Nationally Recognised Training that is widely accepted by industry as an effective way to develop qualified employees.

Certificate II in Health Support Services (Client/Patient Support Services) consists of the following competencies:

Core Units

HLTHIR1A – Work effectively in the health industry

This unit covers the introductory skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a healthcare setting with patients, clients, staff, visitors, suppliers and others to meet established work requirements. (40)

HLTIN1A – Comply with infection control policies and procedures

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required of workers to understand and comply with infection control guidelines. (30)

HLTHSE1A – Follow the organisation's occupational health and safety policies

This unit covers general OHS requirements according to legislation and codes of practice, including duties and responsibilities for all parties under the general duty of care. (30)

BSBCMN204A – Work effectively with others

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work in a group environment such as promoting team commitment and cooperation and supporting team members. (20)

Elective Units

HLTCSD3A – Prepare and maintain beds

This unit is concerned with the ability to apply bed making and cleaning practices to a range of 'beds' to ensure that patients and clients can safely occupy a clean bed. (10)

HLTMS1A – Collect and manage linen stock at user-locations

This unit covers the skills required to collect soiled linen from user-locations, deliver soiled linen to a designated holding area, distribute clean linen and maintain economic linen stock levels at user-locations. (15)

HLTMS3A – Undertake routine inventory maintenance

This unit is concerned with the maintenance of predetermined stock levels of supplies, consumables, equipment and other store items at ward, unit, sub-store or departmental level. (20)

HLTMS4A – Handle and move equipment goods, mail and furniture

This unit deals with safe collection, handling, sorting, movement, portage and delivery of items to internal and external customers. (20)

HLTMS6A – Perform general cleaning tasks in a clinical setting

This unit covers general cleaning duties to maintain a clinical area in a clean and tidy condition, and fit for use. (30)

HLTFS4A – Provide ward or unit based food preparation and distribution services

This unit describes the skills required to provide a range of skills specific to the provision of food services to patients/clients in their accommodation setting; which may be physically separate from a production kitchen. (30)

HLTMS7A – Handle medical gases safely

This unit is concerned with the workers ability to handle medical gas equipment in a safe manner within the health care environment. (20)

HLTMS8A – Handle waste in a health care environment

This unit is concerned with the workers ability to handle waste in a safe manner within the health care environment. (30)

HLTCSD6A – Respond effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour

This unit relates to responding effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour of patients, clients and others. (15)

HLTHSE4A – Follow safe manual handling practice

This unit is concerned with the workers ability to carry out their work in a safe manner within the health care environment. (40)

HLTCSD8A – Transport clients/patients

This unit relates to safe, timely and efficient transport of clients/patients from one location to another at a particular site, or to other sites. (10)

 

Requiring 12 units to achieve the qualification

  • All units from the Core field listed above;
  • 6 units from the elective field listed above;
  • 2 additional elective units may be selected from either the Health Training Package or the Community Services Training packages at Certificate II level or any other nationally endorsed Training Package at Level II.
