The Aged Care Work Traineeship is designed to give you the skills,
knowledge, understanding and practicality needed to work as an
aged care worker in a nursing home, residential care or home care
environment.

CHCAC1C – Provide
support to an older person
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required
by workers within their designated role and responsibilities
to support an older person maintain their quality of life. |
CHCAC2C – Provide
personal care
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required
by workers to support or assist the older person with their
personal care needs within their service delivery plan.

CHCAC3C – Orientation
to work in aged care
This unit describes the roles and responsibilities
by the worker in their role as a carer to perform work that
reflects an understanding of the structure and profile of
the residential aged care sector and key issues facing older
people in the community. |
CHCAC6C – Support
the older person meet their emotional & psychosocial
needs
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required
by the worker to support the older person to meet their emotional
and psychosocial needs.

CHCAC15A – Provide
care support which is responsive to the specific nature
of dementia
Provision of support to clients with dementia in
a variety of settings including family houses, community
day settings and residential care. |
CHCCOM2B – Communicate
appropriately with clients & colleagues
Exercising effective communication skills in the
workplace.

CHCINF8B– Comply
with information requirements of the Aged Care & Community
Care industry
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required
by the worker to undertake administrative duties of the role
including documenting client records and contribute to the
development and monitoring of service delivery plans in accordance
with organisational and duty of care requirements.

CHCOHS302A – Participate
in safety procedures for in direct care work
On completion of this unit, the worker will be able
to accurately identify the major OHS hazards, manual handling,
together with other hazards that may include dealing with
aggressive behaviours, stress, etc. The worker will also
be able to assess related risk as well as follow instructions
and procedures with minimal supervision and support. The
worker will also be capable of participating and contributing
to OHS management issues.

HLTCSD6A – Respond
effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour
This unit relates to responding effectively to difficult
or challenging behaviour of patients, clients and others. |
CHCDIS1C – Orientation
to disability work
To be competent the person requires an understanding of
client requirements, different models of the disability sector
and issues surrounding clients and families. Knowledge includes
the rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities,
developmental and acquired disabilities, networks in the
disability sector, principles of access and equity. |
CHCAC17A – Support
the older person to maintain their independence
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by
the worker to support the older person to maintain their
independence with instrumental activities of living. |
HLTFA1A – Apply
basic first aid
This unit deals with the provision of essential
First Aid in recognising and responding to an emergency using
basic life support measures. The First Aider is not expected
to deal with complex casualties or incidents, but to provide
an initial response where First Aid is required. In this
unit it is assumed the First Aider is working under supervision
and/or according to established workplace First Aid procedures
and policies. |
