Overview
School Based Traineeships are designed to allow school students to commence paid employment while still at school. The program involves:
- Year 11 and 12 students
- Students attend work 1-2 days per week
- Students work towards a Nationally Recognised Certificate II in Business
Health Training Australia
Health Training Australia is a not for profit Group Training Organisation, sponsored by the Australian Medical Association.
Trainees are recruited and employed by HTA and placed with a 'Host Employer' for the duration of the traineeship.
HTA manages employment and administration including: (in consultation with Host Employers)
- Recruitment
- Payment of trainee wages
- Annual and sick leave entitlements
- Workers Compensation
- Liases with host employer, school, trainee, parents and the Registered Training Organisation
Duration
The duration of the traineeship is from 12 to 24 months.
Students must undertake a total of 832 hours of paid employment, with a minimum of 8 hours per week.

Charge Out Rates
Charge out rates for school based trainees is based on cost recovery and includes all Annual Leave Entitlements, Workers Compensation Insurance and Payroll.

Example: A Year 11 student is paid $6.02 per hour and works 8 hours per week. The charge to the host employer is:
($7.27 + $2.55) x 8hrs = $78.56
+ 10% GST* = $86.42
HTA Employment and Training direct debit the host employer fortnightly. The trainee's wages go directly into their bank account each fortnight.
